Message from the President
For the past two years, I have had the privilege of chairing the Board of Directors of Retail Council of Canada. The position gave me a unique perspective on retailing. I saw incredible success among retailers who anticipated consumer trends, quick movement among retailers who undershot their targets and enthusiastic dedication among the retailers who volunteered to make RCC the Voice of Retail. The Board of Directors' commitment to advancing and protecting the needs of the industry helped RCC accomplish some major successes for Canadian retailers. From beating back provincial tax hikes to reshaping how we think of Corporate Social Responsibility, RCC has been at the fore in developing our industry as a vibrant, relevant and effective force in the Canadian economy and on the political scene. I am proud of our accomplishments and I want to thank both my colleagues on the Board and the talented RCC staff for their hard work and dedication. I look forward to seeing how Canadian retailers — united around their industry association — will help to shape Canada's ever-changing landscape. It's been an honour and a privilege to serve you. Good luck in the future!
Outgoing Chair, |
Canada is changing, and so is this great industry. These changes are at times challenging, but they also present great opportunities for retailers and their association. As incoming Chair of RCC's Board of Directors, I know that RCC profits from an engaged membership of retailers who understand that our industry is stronger when we work together. If you have considered volunteering for RCC, this year is your year. The efforts of volunteers like you strengthen our industry association, advance the retail cause and help all of us become better at what we do. Many challenges await retailers in 2007 and 2008, and each holds the potential for success. That's what makes retail so exciting. As retailers, we are afforded a luxury of challenges, and as we have done before, we will work together through RCC to find the benefits for all of us, no matter what our size, category or location. Here's to the future — to the many opportunities we will face together as a vibrant and important industry. We look forward to working with you, and thank you in advance for your support.
