Informing Retailers
In Fall 2007, RCC launched the inaugural issue of its Independent Retailer newsletter, a quarterly publication aimed at RCC's many independent merchant members. Developed in partnership with Scotiabank, the newsletter offers a mix of retailer profiles and practical advice from leading retail experts, and joins RCC's family of retailer-focused publications.
The past year also saw RCC launch its Loss Prevention portal, an online resource developed specifically for the benefit of retailers and retail executives employed in the LP field. Officially introduced at RCC's annual Loss Prevention conference, the LP portal is designed to be a valuable communications tool for retailers in the fight against retail organized crime. |
Spreading Retail's Message

As the Canadian dollar reached parity with its U.S. counterpart in the fall and the media focused on the retail implications, Retail Council of Canada was out front and centre, ensuring retail's message was heard loud and clear during a challenging time for the industry. As the high dollar continued to dominate the media's interest, RCC's targeted media strategy ensured Canadians understood the full range of issues involved in the story.
Economic issues are just some of the reasons why journalists come to RCC looking for expert commentary. Throughout the year, RCC spokespeople provided comment on a wide range of issues, from new gift card rules and holiday spending patterns to emerging trends in loss prevention and environmental practices.
