Grocery retailers

Retail space of 375 square metres or more (over 4,000 square feet)

  • On June 24, you must close your stores.
  • On July 1st, you may open your stores but the restrictions to four (4) staff on the sales floor applies from midnight to 8:00 AM and from 9:00 PM to midnight.

Please note that you must compensate employees who work on July 1st either by granting them an additional day off or by paying a premium which you can calculate by clicking here, unless these provisions are governed by their collective agreement.

Retail space under 375 square metres (less than 4,000 square feet)

  • On June 24, there are no restrictions. Your stores can remain open.
  • On July 1st, you may open your stores but the restriction to four (4) staff on the sales floor applies from midnight to 8:00 AM and from 9:00 PM to midnight.

Please note that you must compensate employees who work on June 24  and on July 1st either by granting them an additional day off or by paying a premium which you can calculate by clicking here, if these provisions are not governed by their collective agreement.

Non-food retailers

You must close your stores unless you are only selling to other businesses or to contractors, and provided that the public may not compare store prices and are not admitted to the sales floor.

Pharmacies

  • On June 24, you may open your stores but the restriction to four (4) staff on the sales floor applies all day.
  • On July 1st, you may open your stores but the restriction to four (4) staff on the sales floor applies from midnight to 8:00 AM and from 9:00 PM to midnight.

Penalties

Grocery retailers

A minimum fine of $1,500 for the first infraction, $6,000 or more for a second conviction and $9,000 or more for each subsequent conviction.

Non-food retailers

A minimum fine of $1,500 for the first infraction and $3,000 or more for each subsequent conviction.
