Bill 164, Community Right to Know Act, 2007
On behalf of Retail Council of Canada (RCC) and our members operating across the province, please accept this submission regarding Bill 164, Community Right to Know Act, 2007 (the Act). Our comments are restricted to the proposed amendments to the Consumer Protection Act, 2002.
Retailers, as sellers, importers, and brand owners of products and the touch point for both consumers and manufacturers, have a significant interest in this Act. RCC and our members are strongly committed to product safety and strict measures to protect human health. However, we are concerned that the Act pre-empts uniform national safety standards, and places retailers in an untenable situation.
As a result of the issues noted above, which are explained in further detail on the following pages, we request that the Standing Committee on the Legislative Assembly not permit this Act to move forward.
All of which is respectfully submitted,
| Ashley McClinton Director, Government Relations (Ontario) |
Rachel Kagan National Manager, Government Relations (Environment) |
