On January 9th, the government published draft regulations in the Gazette officielle, which modify the Regulation respecting labour standards and the Regulation respecting labour standards specific to certain sectors of the apparel industry.

These draft regulations were under a 45 day deadline from their publication. Because their respective deadlines expired, these draft regulation were enacted, following a decree in the Gazette Officielle on April 3rd.

Regulation to amend the Regulation respecting labour standards

This Regulation increases the minimum wage payable to an employee, up from $9.90 per hour to $10.15 an hour.

It also increases the minimum wage payable to an employee receiving gratuities or tips, up from $8.55 per hour to $8.75 an hour.

Finally, the Regulation amends the minimum wage payable to an employee assigned exclusively, during a pay period, to non-mechanized operations relating to the raspberry or strawberry picking. For an employee assigned to the raspberry picking, the amount increases from $2.91 per kilogram to $2.98 per kilogram. For an employee assigned to the strawberry picking, the amount increases from  $0.77 per kilogram to $0.79 per kilogram.

This Regulation will come into effect on May 1, 2013.
