RCC Notice:

Request for feedback on Draft RCC Minimum Wage Position Paper

November 7, 2012

Dear member,

As many of you know, minimum wage levels across Canada have been increasing at rates that are concerning to retailers.  Generally, governments make policy decisions related to minimum wage based either on prescriptive rate schedules and timetables, or they bow to public pressure and make decisions on an ad-hoc basis.

RCC would like to develop a national position regarding minimum wage policy, or, changes to the minimum wage.  The RCC Human Resources (HR) Committee was asked to contribute its expertise to the development of this national position and members were asked to contemplate the factors that governments should consider before changing the minimum wage, and the plan that governments should follow to provide better predictability on when / how minimum wage changes would occur.

We have incorporated the feedback from the HR committee and now we turn to you in the regions to provide your input and feedback on the draft which we welcome by November 16, 2012.

As always, please call or email me with any questions at jcormier@retailcouncil.org or call me at 902-422-4144.  Please share and forward this to others in your organization as you deem appropriate.  Thank you for taking the time to do this!
