Liberal Senator Pierrette Ringuette has reintroduced a Senate Public Bill, now numbered S-202, to amend the Payment Card Networks Act. Specifically, Bill S-202, if passed, would cap credit card acceptance fees paid by merchants at 0.5% of the value of the transaction. The fees would be capped at lower levels for credit card payments made to charities (0.0%) and government institutions (0.3%).

This Bill, then numbered as S-215, was introduced in December 2012 during the last Session of Parliament but died on the order paper when Parliament was prorogued on September 13, 2013. Click here for further information on the Bill (full text and summary).
