Retail Council of Canada (RCC) announced today that Don Sheehan, owner of Amos Pewter, a designer and retailer of pewter gifts and keepsakes in Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia will be honoured with the 2014 Independent Retail Ambassador of the Year Award.

The Independent Retail Ambassador of the Year Award, sponsored by Chase Paymentech, the payment processing and merchant acquiring business of JPMorgan Chase & Co., recognizes the outstanding contributions of a local independent retailer to his or her community. The recipient is seen as a visionary, an innovator, and an integral part of the community that his or her business serves. Don Sheehan was selected this year among a list of remarkable independent retailers across Canada and will be recognized for Amos Pewter’s commitment to superior customer service, support of the Mahone Bay community as well as the business’ expansion in Atlantic Canada.  The first Amos Pewter location was established in 1974 by Greg and Suzanne Amos and has expanded since Don took ownership in 2006 to include locations on the Halifax waterfront, Peggy’s Cove and Charlottetown (PEI).

“RCC is delighted to present this award to Don Sheehan, an entrepreneur who is dedicated to growing and innovating the customer experience and a true ambassador in the community of Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia,” said Diane J. Brisebois, President & CEO of RCC. “Amos Pewter has built a loyal customer base not only in Atlantic Canada but worldwide who value the focus on quality and dedication to retaining local flavour. We are proud to recognize these accomplishments on behalf of the industry.”  Amos Pewter is a proud sponsor of several local festivals and events held year round in Mahone Bay and is a fundraising partner of the IWK Children’s Hospital in Halifax. The artisans at Amos Pewter work hard to create a culture of customer service through on-site demonstration workshops that showcase their traditional trades and crafts. “I am pleased to see one of our great artisans recognized across Canada for his leadership.  Mr. Sheehan is a proud member of our 70 international artisans that have implemented the ÉCONOMUSÉE concept in their business to help artisans grow their businesses through cultural tourism,” said Michel Gervais, President, ÉCONOMUSÉE.

Don and Amos Pewter will be recognized by the industry at RCC’s annual Excellence in Retailing Award Dinner held on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at STORE 2014 – Canada’s Retail Conference. For more information about STORE 2014, visit www.storeconference.ca.
