Canadian Retail Industry Honours Henry Singer Fashion Group's Fred Singer with Retail Hall of Fame Award
Toronto, May 22 – Today, Retail Council of Canada (RCC) announced Fred Singer, President of Henry Singer Fashion Group, as the recipient of the 2009 Canadian Retail Hall of Fame Award. The award will be presented to Mr. Singer at RCC's Gala dinner on June 1, as part of their national STORE conference in Toronto. Mr. Singer was nominated and selected for the award by a distinguished panel of retail executives, as well as representatives from the financial, academic and consulting communities.
"Mr. Singer is passionate about the future of Canadian retail," says Diane J. Brisebois, President and CEO, Retail Council of Canada. "His commitment to the retail industry is unparalleled. Whether he's encouraging our youth to become retail leaders, supporting national charities or lending his expertise to promote retail and retail as a career through local schools, Mr. Singer lives and breathes retail - to the benefit of the entire industry."
Mr. Singer joined the family business in 1968, becoming president nine years later. He redefined the Henry Singer brand with a vision of global merchandising, making him the first retailer in Canada to import many luxury brands. Following in his father Henry Singer's footsteps, Mr. Singer dedicated himself to helping local and national charities and educational initiatives.
"There is no doubt that retail is in Mr. Singer's blood," adds Brisebois. "The Henry Singer Group is well known in Alberta and across the country for being a champion for the success of Canadian retail. It's not often that you find an exceptional leader, mentor and retail specialist with such dedication to not only the industry, but the community as a whole. Mr. Singer is an inspiration to us all and so very deserving of this award."
The Canadian Retail Hall of Fame Award recognizes retail executives who demonstrate leadership in advancing and promoting retail as a career within their company and in the industry, and are strong advocates of retail education and training. Mr. Singer joins a notable list of past winners, including Stephen Bebis, Golf Town (2008), Steve Matyas, STAPLES Business Depot (2007), Christine Magee and Steve Gunn, Sleep Country Canada (2005) and Mario Pilozzi, Wal-Mart Canada (2004).
