As indicated in the attached December 12 ruling the Copyright Board has ruled to maintain current copyright levy on blank CDs at .29 cents per unit. This levy applies to 2015/2016.
The ruling also noted that both the sales of blank CDs, as well as the use for recording music are continuing to decline. As such the Copyright Board indicated that based on forecasts included in the ruling, it expects usage to fall below minimum levels required for the levy to continue to be applied by 2017. If this is indeed the case than the .29 cents per unit levy would be removed at that time.
