Government agrees to more predictable cadence for food labelling regulatory changes

December 15, 2020

Following the request from Retail Council of Canada for a more predictable cadence for future food label regulatory changes, Health Canada and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) have agreed to formalize its agreement for a more scheduced approach. This change will mean fewer label changes for private label brand owners, less administrative burden, and fewer unnecessary costs.

Officials indicated that a policy proposal would be published for consultation early in 2021 with an eye to finalizing the document by mid-year, 2021.

RCC will be preparing further comments on behalf of members.
