Labelling requirements change during COVID-19 to ease supply chain strains and minimize waste

April 8, 2020

Working closely with industry and government, RCC successfully negotiated to temporarily suspend certain labelling requirements for foodservice products for 90 days (until July 5, 2020), including:

  • official language requirements
  • format requirements (e.g. stickers are allowed)
  • container sizes

This means that food that was destined for restaurants, hotels and institutions such as schools can be repurposed for sale at retail in response to the COVID-19 crisis.
