Alberta’s ban on flavoured tobacco products takes effect June 1, 2015. The only exceptions to the ban are:
- Flavoured cigars that cost more than $4.00 each and weigh five grams or more; and
- Flavoured pipe tobacco.
Alberta Health has also announced that menthol products will be added to the tobacco ban on October 1, 2015. Retail Council of Canada had requested for sufficient time for retailers to plan for this change to the tobacco restrictions and the Alberta government has provided for a four month transition period for retailers. Retailers will be able to continue to sell menthol tobacco products until September 30, 2015.
