Retailers with Operations in Quebec – Guide on changes in the regulations on use of trademarks on signs

Further to the member notice sent on November 11th 2016, please find attached an English guide on the use of trademarks on signs in Quebec.

The English version of this guide, originally produced by l’Office de la langue française, is made available by RCC for the sole and exclusive use of its members. This guide will provide members with guidance to comply with new signage regulations including information on:

  • Types of signs
  • Terms and messages that provide the French language with sufficient presence
  • Characteristics of terms and messages that provide the French language with sufficient presence

As previously indicated, the regulations came into force on November 24th, 2016 and Quebec businesses will have three years from this date to ensure signage complies with new requirements.

RCC is working on developing additional information and training tools to help its members understand and comply to this new regulations. Further details will be provided in the upcoming weeks.
