Small business minimum wage rebate in Manitoba eligibility expands

January 4, 2023

In response to industry feedback, including from RCC, the Manitoba government has expanded the Small Business Minimum Wage Adjustment Program eligibility requirements to benefit more small businesses.

Eligibility for the Small Business Minimum Wage Adjustment Program has been expanded to include businesses with up to 100 Manitoba-based employees. Previously, eligibility was limited to businesses with up to 20 employees.

Eligible employers with up to 100 employees can apply for a $0.50 cent-an-hour wage subsidy for up to 20 employees for a period of six months, retroactive from October 1, 2022 to March 31, 2023. RCC and other associations objected in the Fall to the limited notice for a substantially increased minimum wage that increased on October 1 from $11.95 to $13.50, will rise again on April 1 to $14.15, and again to $15.00 by October 1, 2023.
