Alberta joins court challenge against feds listing plastics as toxic
September 13, 2022Alberta has announced that the province will intervene in two court challenges against the federal government’s plans to list plastic products as “toxic” and phase out a number of single-use items by 2030. Ottawa intends to ban several plastic products, including straws, takeout containers and cutlery, by the end of the decade through a phased approach.
The government also has multiple regulations on the way in the next few years as a direct outcome of this legislation, including minimum requirements for recycled content and recyclability and composability regulations.
