Alberta Prompt Payment Regulations came into force August 29, 2022

On August 29, 2022, the changes to the Alberta Builders’ Lien Act took effect, making Alberta the third province in Canada to implement prompt payment and adjudication in its lien legislation. 

These regulations apply to contracts in all construction industry sectors and introduced legislative timelines for when contractors and subcontractors must be paid. In the event of a dispute, a new adjudication process will be introduced to attempt to address the issue without going through the court process.
