Alberta’s Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Programs Launch on April 1
April 1, 2025Today marks the launch of Alberta’s Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) programs for Single-use products, packaging and paper products (PPP) and hazardous and special products (HSP). The launch of the PPP EPR program in Alberta aligns the province with other jurisdictions including BC, ON, QC and NB. Obligated producers for PPP need to register with Circular Materials, the designated Producer Responsibility Organization (PRO) for Alberta. The phased implementation of the PPP program in Alberta starts with Phase I on April 1, 2025, for communities with existing services, including an additional intake period beginning in July 2025, and Phase II commencing on October 1, 2026, for new communities or those that missed earlier registration. For the PPP program, due to strong RCC advocacy and industry feedback, the Alberta Recycling Management Authority (ARMA) has paused verification requirements for 2025 supply reporting with the first year requiring verified supply reporting data now set for 2026.
