Amendment to the Price Accuracy Policy in Quebec

April 14, 2025

Following the passage of Bill 72, the compensation provided under the Price Accuracy Policy will increase from $10 to $15 on May 7, 2025. This policy applies to businesses that exempt themselves  (in French) from the individual product labelling rule by indicating the price near the items (for example, on shelves) and using an optical reader at the checkout.

If the price claimed at checkout is higher than the advertised price, the merchant must:

  • give the item free of charge to the consumer if the advertised price is $15 or less;
  • offer a $15 discount off the advertised price if the item is advertised at more than $15.

 To comply with the posting obligations set out in the Policy, you have several options:

  1. Purchase of government posters:
    The new official posters are now available for purchase from Publications du Québec. To purchase these posters, you can order them by phone at 1 800 463-2100 or by visiting their website (in French).
  2. Printing of government posters:
    If you prefer to print the posters yourself, the Office de la protection du consommateur (OPC) now offers, at the request of RCC, free printing licenses (in French) under certain conditions. Once the online form is completed, you will have access to the necessary mock-ups for printing.
  3. Using your own sign:
    It is important to note that the use of government signs is not mandatory. You can produce your own poster while respecting the signage obligations in force (see Section 2 of the decree).
    Note: It should be noted that except for the compensation amount (which has been increased from $10 to $15), the content of the current posters remains relevant.

In addition, an informative video will soon be available on the OPC’S website (in French) and YouTube channel (in French).
