Political Appointments in Quebec City
September 6, 2024Following the resignation of Minister Pierre Fitzgibbon on Wednesday, just before the start of the CAQ caucus, Quebec Premier François Legault appointed Christine Fréchette as Minister of Economy and Energy today. She also becomes Minister Responsible for de Metropolis and the Montréal Region
Ms. Fréchette, who was first elected in 2022 as the MNA for Sanguinet (Montérégie), has an economic profile. Prior to the last election, she was CEO of the Chambre de commerce de l’Est de Montréal from 2016 to 2021. Ms. Fréchette holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, from HEC Montréal, with a focus on economics and international trade, and a Master’s degree in international relations. She also worked at Montréal International before entering politics.
There is every reason to believe that her experience and economic profile will be useful to the retail sector in Quebec.
Another important appointment for Immigration
Taking the reins at the Ministry of Immigration following Ms. Fréchette’s appointment, Jean-François Roberge, current Minister of the French Language and Minister Responsible for Canadian Relations, will add the responsibilities of Minister of Immigration to his current duties. Mr. Roberge is a regular at CCCD’s Politiques et détail luncheons.
RCC would like to congratulate the Minister on this new portfolio, and we will work with him to help fill the thousands of vacancies in the retail industry.
The swearing-in of both Ministers took place Thursday afternoon in Quebec City.
