B.C. permanently caps restaurant delivery fees
January 4, 2023A permanent cap on delivery fees charged to restaurants limits the fees that a ‘food delivery platform operator’ can charge a restaurant to no more than 20% of the dollar value of an order as of January 1, 2023. The act also allows delivery companies to offer optional, enhanced services for restaurants to opt into at their discretion. It followed a temporary cap put in place in December 2020, which was extended in September and December 2021.
The Act does not apply to grocery or convenience stores (definitions of ‘restaurant’, section 1, Food Services Delivery Act).
