B.C. supply chain outages resulting from major floods

In addition to flooding in numerous communities in southwestern British Columbia and on Vancouver Island, both regions are experiencing significant supply chain challenges resulting from weather-related damage.

Road

All major roads between the Lower Mainland and the B.C. Interior, and between the Lower Mainland and Northwest Washington State, are closed.  Again, damage assessments are underway.  Time-frames for reopening will only be known once damage assessments are done. At this time, Highway 3 is likely to be the first to reopen, projected to be at some time this weekend. Road status can be determined at DriveBC.

Rail

Both CN Rail and CP Rail report that rain links between Kamloops and Vancouver are broken.  Damage assessment is underway.  A time-frame for reopening will be known once damage assessments are done.

Port

The Port of Vancouver reports that they are assessing impacts of the disruption and developing a recovery plan.  Daily updates from the port on import rail performance and weekly updates on truck terminal turn time performance are available through the port authority’s website.

Deputy Premier Mike Farnworth has indicated the province will continue to furnish regular updates as the damage assessment process continues. RCC is in contact with Emergency Management BC and Health Canada regarding impact to the supply chain.
