B.C. to formally recognize National Day for Truth and Reconciliation as a statutory holiday

February 14, 2023

B.C. will recognize September 30, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation as a provincial statutory holiday, starting in 2023. The province joins the federal government and Prince Edward Island, Nunavut, the Northwest Territories and Yukon in this formal recognition.

While the legislation has not yet passed, it is expected to do so easily and will therefore be a holiday beginning on September 30, 2023. As with other statutory holidays in B.C., retailers are permitted to be open as long as they pay their employees according to the law.
