Canada Given One Month Tariff Reprieve
February 4, 2025At the eleventh hour, and following a high-stakes conversation between Prime Minister Trudeau and President Donald Trump, we learned that US tariffs on Canadian goods were being put on hold for 30 days. Canada’s initial $30B round of counter-tariffs due to go into effect at midnight on Tuesday were also cancelled.
While this is certainly welcome news and a relief for retailers, businesses, and Canadians, we may not be out of the woods yet. RCC will continue to monitor the evolving situation, update members as needed, and continue to work with partners and government to ensure that we do not find ourselves in the same situation in a month’s time.
Thank you to all the members that shared their concerns with us to fuel our advocacy work, particularly in the last few days.
RCC is monitoring the situation and will share updates as they emerge
