Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) publishes extension of labelling exemptions
July 8, 2020
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has published the temporary flexibility for labelling requirements for Canadian-made, packaged and labelled foodservice products for sale at retail.
This means that retailers can continue to sell foods labelled for restaurants, hotels and schools – produced for the US or Canada – until September 3, 2020 as long as basic information is provided such as name, quantity and best before dates. Retailers requested this extension to provide additional flexibility to source food during the crisis and avoid unnecessary food waste.
