Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) publishes new Fish Species Surveillance Report
March 25, 2021Yesterday, CFIA published its Enhanced Fish Species Substitution Surveillance Report: 2019 to 2020, sharing its investigative results of proper fish labelling in Canada. CFIA’s surveillance activities targeted fish species that were more likely to be substituted as well as establishments with a history of non-compliance. Fresh, frozen, dried, or salted fish filets were collected from across Canada from domestic processors, importers, and retailers. There was an overall 91.8% compliance rate.
Retail-specific results showed an 88% compliant rate. RCC is pleased the report confirms the high level of compliance from Canada’s well-managed food supply chain. As always, Canadians can be confident when purchasing seafood from their local retailer.
