Summer 2024 WorkSafeBC Inspection Trends

August 20, 2024

Attention human resource and occupational health and safety professionals: RCC members report several trends amongst WorkSafeBC prevention officer inspections. As RCC has highlighted over the last year, medium and large retailers are being asked about their Musculoskeletal Injury (MSI) prevention programs. There is a basic MSI prevention program on the RCC web site. Other inspection trends include a renewal of inspections related to storage racking – which were a concern before the COVID-19 pandemic, and exposure and prevention programs related to combustible dust – in retail settings with scratch bakeries this is often related to flour dust. Members with questions or needing more information should contact Greg Wilson, Director, Government Relations (B.C.) gwilson@retailcouncil.org.
