Nova Scotia Delays New Unpaid Sick Leave Law
September 24, 2024Attention employers in Nova Scotia: Nova Scotia’s new legislation grants employees five additional unpaid sick days for general illness and up to 27 weeks for serious illness or injury. As parts of the legislation were initially planned for immediate implementation, the changes will now take effect on January 1, 2025, after further consultations with stakeholders to give business more time to adjust. Businesses, HR leaders, and retailers must prepare for the expanded leave options, which include eight total unpaid sick days for general illness and extended leave for severe health conditions.
