Alberta capacity calculator published

December 1, 2020

Last Friday, new 25% capacity limits went into effect for most retail stores across Alberta as part of a number of added health measures. Capacity in the guidance has been tied to Alberta’s Fire Code and allows for a minimum of 5 customers in small stores.

Since many businesses were unable to locate their permit, the government has responded by publishing  a calculation formula in this document to aid in setting a store’s capacity.  The formula on page 2 allows for approximately 6.3 people per 1,000 square feet, plus employees.
