Montreal Dock Workers Strike Will Not Impact Oceanex Service

October 1, 2024

As the strike at the Port of Montreal begins, RCC is pleased to inform members that the Oceanex service from Montreal to Newfoundland and Labrador, remains unaffected. The Canadian Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) has confirmed that due to the critical role Oceanex plays in delivering essential supplies to Newfoundland and Labrador, the service has been designated as essential. Therefore, Oceanex operations will continue uninterrupted despite the current labour disruption. It’s important to note, however, that this essential service designation is not permanent. Should future labour disputes arise, Oceanex will need to defend its essential status with the CIRB and the relevant unions involved in each case.
