RCC Ramps Up Efforts to Avoid August Rail Strike

August 13, 2024

A potential strike at both Canadian National (CN) and Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) has been delayed until August 22, 2024RCC is actively leveraging all its channels and collaborating with partners to urge the government and all involved parties to reach an agreement and prevent any disruptions to the retail supply chain.

This development follows the Canadian Industrial Relations Board’s ruling on Friday, August 9th, which set August 22, 2024 as the earliest possible strike date. In response, CPCK has announced plans to lock out their workers if no agreement is reached by that date. Both unions must provide 72 hours notice if they intend to strike on August 22, 2024.

There is still time to avoid a strike and the potential shutdown of Canada’s rail system. Agreements between the parties or government intervention could prevent this disruption, and RCC will continue to apply pressure to ensure a positive outcome.
