Alberta to Add Eco Fees on Expanded List of Electronics

Attention retailers who sell electronics: The Government of Alberta has announced new eco fees will be added to an extensive list of household electronics that have been part of a pilot program, as well plans to exploratory programs for recycling solar panels, electronic vehicle batteries as well as wind turbines. The expanded electronics program will continue to be operated by Alberta Recycling Management Authority. As of April 1, 2025, surcharges added to pilot program products include: lawn and garden equipment, small appliances (e.g., microwaves, coffee machines, digital bathroom scales), cell phones / telephones, A/V devices (e.g., speakers, DVD players, VCRs), musical instruments (e.g., electric guitars, keyboards), video game equipment and toys.
