EPR Expansion & Major Breakthrough with Addition of Producer Hierarchy
July 16, 2024Attention retailers selling batteries, lighting, oil, glycol and electronics: After years of RCC advocacy, New Brunswick amends the Designated Materials Regulation, introducing extended producer responsibility (EPR programs) for batteries and lighting, and expanding existing ones for oil, glycol, and electronics. Government listened to RCC and included a producer hierarchy for all waste diversion programs that fall under the Regulation. The new producer hierarchy takes effect January 2026, with program launches expected by summer 2025. All PROs must update and resubmit stewardship plans by June 30, 2025.
