Extension of Ontario order
January 26, 2021The Ontario government officially extended its second state of emergency and a stay-at-home order yesterday for an additional two weeks to at least February 9, 2021.
This announcement is not surprising given that Premier Ford said on January 12, 2021 that the state of emergency would be in effect for 28 days. If the order hadn’t been extended yesterday, the state of emergency and stay-at-home order would have automatically expired on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at 12:01 a.m.
Despite RCC’s ongoing efforts to encourage the government to allow for the reopening of all retail businesses at reduced capacity limits, the Ontario Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. David Williams, reiterated that the province needs to see daily COVID-19 cases decline to the 1,000 mark before the order can be listed (Monday’s number of cases was 1,958 down from 2,417 on Sunday).
