Federal Election Called – What’s at Stake for Retailers
March 25, 2025On Sunday, Prime Minister Mark Carney called a snap election for April 28, 2025. Canadians will be going to the polls in what is shaping up to be one of the most consequential elections in decades. The existential threats of tariffs will be the backdrop of a campaign that will also need to address the many domestic economic challenges that existed before the new aggressive US trade action.
With all this in mind, RCC has launched Vote Retail 2025, our plan to ensure that, no matter who wins the federal election, they champion these key goals:
- End the Tariff War
- Fight Retail Crime, especially Organized and/or Violent Crime
- Drive Down Retailers’ Operating Costs
- Create a Level Playing Field for Retail in Canada
- Introduce Programs to Increase Retail Activity in Canada
RCC will provide regular updates on announcements impacting the retail sector as we continue to have conversations with political parties about how they can support our sector.
