PEI plastic bag ban

ATTENTION RCC Members,

The PEI government has given Royal Assent to the updated / final version of Bill 114 – the Plastic Bag Reduction Act. The bill is finally online and can be seen at the following link:

http://www.assembly.pe.ca/bills/pdf_chapter/65/3/chapter-38.pdf

Of immediate importance for RCC members is the fact that the ban will not come into effect until July 1, 2019.

There has been confusion regarding the date for the ban to commence as a prominent national media outlet mistakenly reported that the ban would come into effect on July 1, 2018. RCC contacted this media outlet and asked them to correct their inaccurate story but Internet searches for this story still produce the inaccurate information.

To reiterate the PEI Plastic Bag Reduction Act comes into effect on July 1, 2019.
