Global Plastics Treaty Talks Heat Up
November 26, 2024The INC-5 meeting on the global plastics treaty kicked off November 25, 2024 in South Korea. Canada is expecting these meetings to result in a “start and strengthen” framework with phased commitments targeting high-risk chemicals and problematic plastics, guided by science and balanced with economic realities. The next phase, COP-1, expected in late 2025 or early 2026, will detail standards and formalize lists through a phased approach, adapting to evolving science and sustainable solutions. RCC supports aligning the treaty with trade partners to avoid fragmented regulations and drive a cost-effective circular economy.
