Health Canada Eyes Stricter Rules for Nicotine Replacement Products
June 25, 2024Attention retailers selling nicotine replacement products: Health Canada plans new regulations for Nicotine Replacement Therapies to reduce youth access and appeal. Currently regulated under the Food and Drugs Act as either prescription drugs or natural health products, these items—including gums, lozenges, pouches, and inhalers—require market authorization but are not classified as tobacco products, allowing them to face fewer restrictions. Due to their rising popularity, new rules for packaging, labeling, point-of-sale, flavors, and advertising are being considered. The consultation period ends June 28, 2024.
