Federal government releases policy proposal on marketing foods to children
May 1, 2023Last week, Health Canada released a policy proposal on the marketing of foods to children. The government is proposing to introduce regulations to restrict the marketing to children of certain foods with added sodium, free sugars, or added fat, starting with what can be promoted in digital media and on television. This proposal provides insight on what regulations the government would plan to introduce should Bill C-252 pass in Parliament. Draft regulations are planned for Winter 2024.
Health Canada is seeking feedback on their proposal by June 12, 2023. RCC is working with the Food Safety & Nutrition Committee to develop comments.
