Historic $1.30 Minimum Wage Hike Set for 2025
February 4, 2025Nova Scotia’s newly re-elected government is making good on its campaign pledge, implementing the province’s largest-ever minimum wage increase in 2025.
The base wage will rise by $1.30 in two stages:
- April 1, 2025 – A $0.50 increase to $15.70 per hour
- October 1, 2025 – An additional $0.80, bringing it to $16.50 per hour
This jump far exceeds the province’s legislated formula, which ties minimum wage adjustments to the previous year’s Consumer Price Index (CPI) + 1%. RCC recently met with the new Minister of Labour and senior officials to voice concerns over the sharp increase and the government’s ongoing departure from its own wage-setting framework.
However, since the hike was a key election promise, RCC is advising members to plan ahead for the adjustment. Read the full press release.
