Latest on Tariffs & Trade: Canada Responds

March 18, 2025

Last Wednesday, in response to new U.S. tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum, the Canadian government introduced a new $29.8B round of counter-tariffs on US goods. Half of the items captured in this round of counter-tariffs were consumer goods in a variety of categories like sports equipment, appliances, cookware, tools, and computers. RCC circulated a detailed update for members that provides information on the tariffs, customs process details, and how to apply for remissions (tariff refunds).

With the U.S. considering another round of tariffs by April 2, 2025, Canada is standing firm, consulting on a third, $125B list of counter-tariffs. RCC will submit industry-wide comments and urges members to voice their company-specific concerns to ensure the government understands the full impact.
