Making Progress on Retail Construction Red Tape

In what was universally considered a highly productive discussion, last week RCC grocery members met with Hon. Ric McIver, Alberta Minister of Municipal Affairs to develop a pathway forward to overcoming Alberta’s onerous regulatory process to get refrigerant systems approved in a retail store, that in contrast to other provinces adds significant cost, time, and creates barriers for new technology.   The Minister was surprised by this insight and directed his team to work with RCC to quickly establish a small working group with key government and retail representatives, so as to ensure a number of identified opportunities are evaluated and ultimately implemented.   We appreciate the commitment of the Alberta government to work with us on this issue that has impeded retail capital investment in the province.
