Manitoba Bills Receive Royal Assent

As the spring session concludes, the Manitoba government passed and received royal assent for a number of bills, including a few of interest to some of our members. 

Bill 31, the Property Controls for Grocery Stores and Supermarkets Act addresses restrictive covenants, while Bill 29, the Workplace Safety and Health Amendment expanded protections including enabling workers to work in psychologically safe workplaces.  It also speaks to dangerous work as that involving an imminent risk of serious physical or health injury where reasonable controls have not been put in place. Bill 47, the Fair Trade in Canada Act is designed to address interprovincial trade barriers, while Bill 42, the Buy Canadian Act, prioritizes Canadian businesses and workers. The legislative assembly is set to return on Oct. 1.
