Manitoba Enacts Prompt Payment Regulations for Construction Work

Aligning with similar construction prompt payment acts already in place in Ontario, Saskatchewan and Alberta, the Manitoba government has now enacted Prompt Payment regulations that places rules around the timely flow of construction payments by contractors.

While the prompt payment regulation strives to address concerns within the construction industry about delayed payments causing problems through project payment chains, RCC has highlighted that it ultimately forces owners to litigate disputes where poor work warrants a payment holdback.  Manitoba will now have an adjudication framework and authority to strive to address disputes.
