Manitoba’s Public Safety Strategy Prioritizes Retail Crime Solutions
November 19, 2024Following months of consultation, including leveraging the insights of RCC’s Manitoba Retail Secure Summit, Manitoba’s Minister of Justice has released the governments Public Safety Strategy that outlines a roadmap for safer and more secure communities.
RCC is pleased to see retail safety identified as one of the top priorities, with a number of initiatives aimed at addressing current challenges, including making the RCC / Winnipeg Police Services Retail Crime Initiative permanent by funding 12 new officers committed to community policing, updating legislation in support of private security services, enhancing the RCC-led Retail Crime Task Force, advocating to the federal government for Criminal Code reform on organized retail theft, and hiring new mental health workers to work along side first responders, among other important priorities.
