Minimum Wage to Increase to $16.00 per hour on April 1, 2025

March 25, 2025

After months of waiting, the Newfoundland and Labrador government finally announced that it will increase its minimum wage to $16.00 on April 1, 2025.  This 2.5% increase (rounded to the nearest 5 cents) follows the province’s legislated approach to adjusting minimum wage annually, on April 1st by the national change in the Consumer Price Index for the previous year.  The delay in this year’s announcement was likely due to Premier Andrew Furey’s recent announcement that he would be stepping down as Premier once his successor is chosen.  Despite the significance of a $0.40 per hour increase in the base wage, RCC appreciates the predictability provided to retailers when the government follows its legislated approach. Read the public advisory.
