Most PCR testing replaced with rapid testing, isolation requirements reduced in Manitoba
January 11, 2022Manitoba is replacing most PCR testing with rapid antigen tests and indicated that individuals testing positive with a rapid antigen test should assume they have COVID-19. They do not need to get a follow-up PCR test to confirm, unless they fall into a specific high-risk group or are a front-line responder/health care position.
Until this announcement, getting PCR testing results through COVID-19 testing sites were taking up to a week, creating added disruption and uncertainty regarding attending workplaces. Manitoba, like many provinces, also reduced isolation requirements down to 5 days for people who are fully vaccinated and do not have symptoms.
