New Workplace Bill Targets Psychological Injury

A new Workers Compensation Board (WCB) of Manitoba  Workplace Safety and Health Bill proposes mandatory employer measures to protect workers’ from harm, including  psychological well-being. The focus is on work-related trauma, not pre-existing mental health conditions—though the overlap may be complex. RCC is seeking a meeting with the Minister to clarify how violent retail crime—where both businesses and employees are victims—fits into this legislation.

Currently, most psychological injury claims under WCB come from healthcare and corrections workers, but this Bill could have broader implications. RCC will keep members informed as discussions unfold.
