PEI drops mandatory masking rule and loosens entry requirements
July 12, 2021PEI’s mandatory indoor mask rule has been dropped effective July 9, 2021. Masks are still recommended for people who have yet to receive their second vaccination dose and for businesses that serve the public in close quarters like retail and restaurants. However, this is a recommendation only. The government specifically clarified that business owners are not required to ask customers about their vaccination status in relation to any business initiative regarding the wearing of masks. More information regarding masking is available on the PEI government website.
Also, effective July 9, 2021, PEI will no longer test people who arrive in the province with a PEI Pass. Currently, only Atlantic Canadians are eligible to receive a PEI Pass. The PEI Pass allows a person to visit PEI without self-isolating. This is good news for PEI retailers as tourists were unimpressed with the line ups for testing at the province’s points of entry.
