Premier Horgan promises made-in-BC paid sick leave program
April 29, 2021
BC Premier John Horgan announced that BC is considering the creation of a paid sick leave program through WorkSafeBC. This will impact employers’ WSBC assessment rates. Any new program would be in response to a BC Federation of Labour campaign for paid sick days. The BC Fed campaign has four principal asks of a program: provides an adequate number of sick days, fully pays workers’ wages, has no barriers to access, and applies to every worker in BC.
RCC will monitor the situation and participate if the government holds any consultations with the business sector. RCC will liaise with other employers and business associations to ensure the interests of business, particularly those damaged by the COVID-19 pandemic, are protected.
